Singapore Repertory Theatre is holding auditions for its musical in 2011. We are looking for performers aged between 10 and 16 years old.

Rehearsal period: 21 February – 30 March 2011
Performance period: 31 March – 17 April 2011

Audition Information

Please bring a headshot and a list of your performing experience if you have one. In addition, please prepare:
1) One one-minute monologue (memorized).
2) One song – Music accompaniment is compulsory. Please bring your minus one on CD/ ipod, music scores or a pianist.

This is Yi Ting from Sitting In Pictures, a local television production company.

We are in the midst of pre-production for an OKTO kids drama- Dream School, and are casting for kids aged (or look) between 13 and 15. Dream School is a 14-episode song and dance drama series, slated to be in production from end May 2010. We are looking for teens who preferably can sing and act and those with a talent (i.e. dancing/ singing) are most welcomed.

May I know if Kranji Sec's K Production Drama Team has a talent pool from this age group who are interested in this production? If so, perhaps we can arrange for a casting session some time this month.

Auditions start at 3pm, and if you classes end at 3.20pm or 4pm, it's ok. Attend your classes and come down to the audition venue as soon as you're dismissed.

We'd also be preparing one mini performance within our assigned groups throughout the duration of camp, based on what we will be learning during drama training. You will be given time to work on your pieces, so don't worry.

We will be trained by our dear Mama Tang for Poetry Slam. I'm very excited about it too! Poetry Slam includes working with rap, songs, movement and good old characterisation. We will most probably be using Roald Dahl's ridiculous poems. Some of us may rememberhim as the authour of Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, BFG and James and the Giant Peach.

NOTE: Food WILL BE ITALIANO/WESTERN! YEAH BABY! Mamma mia.
Games will be fun and engaging theatre sports games.

OH MY GOOD CHEESE SAUSAGE BLOGGER IS WORKING LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. FINALLY!

Anyway, I'm sorry for the delay in posting the jacket design for the secondary 3s up. My bad.

Ok credits to Ridzuan. Initially, there were 2 small peace signs in the design but I took it out. Why? Because it's anti-Christ. A lot of people don't know that. You can google it.

P.S. It's ELDDS and not KPDT on the jacket because we're the last batch of people from the CCA when KPDT was called ELDDS. Oh and btw the jacket is yellow.

P.S.S. I don't know what the 'vintage' thing means on the design. Miss Tang likes it though. You can discuss with the rest of the sec 3s if you don't like the design.

SO in case the handphone sms did not reach your brain, the end-of-year camp is from the 30th of November to the 2nd of December.

My apologies for having drama be seemingly inactive for so long.

Initially, we had plans to stage a comedy skit for Teacher's Day but due to some problems with the head honcho we had no choice but to abort the idea. Sorry to all those who were hoping to perform.

Thankfully the whole event hasn't been cancelled, so the secondary 1 and 2 boys have decided to work on a little performance of their own. If anybody needs further information, please feel free to approach any of the presidents or the secondary 2s.

A Word of Thanks and Congratulations

The Singapore Water Festival sounds very fun, so I hope that a lot of people will attend the event.

Anyway, I'm just here to congratulate fellow performers, as well as the backstage crew for a job well done on 5th June.

The most important thing is to let our audience members feel the sincerity, and to let them think and reflect. If we have entered their hearts, we have succeeded. And that we have.

The way to gain purpose in life is to devote yourself to the community, and to offer people what we have to give. What we have to give is our storytelling.

I would like to comment everyone for doing their best during the show and staying focused and in character. Rebecca told me that there was a technical fault with the OHP during the show and I think that all the shadow puppeteers deserve a good pat on the back for not panicking and handling the situation well. The ensemble actors, as usual, are very coordinated and they matched the pace of the show perfectly. The main cast did our utmost best and I heard from a friend that our voices were so clear that she thought it was prerecorded.

Last but most definitely not least, Miss Tang, and the crew have really done a great job. They are by far the most disciplined and most hardworking CCA in the school.

Give yourself a round of applause for your efforts.

Dear delightfully deranged fellow members of K Productions Drama Team,

I'm sorry to inform you that I do not in fact know what the "Productions" in our CCA name is referring to.

However, that is hardly the point.

I am eager to inform you of the fun and excitement that awaits you in camp. For the innocent and ignorant little Secondary 1s, I'll give you prior warning that secondary school camps are a lot different from the camps you have experienced before. And no, it doesn't matter if it's brownie camp or wushu camp, because Drama camp rules ALL.

Ok my apologies, I shall get to the point. The point is that we (meaning the camp facilitators) hope that this camp would be memorable for all participants.

We don't give a hoot if you improved your reading and writing skills or algebra, because this is a BONDING camp. Algebra does not help us bond.

The 6 camp facilitators have been tearing our hair out by the roots planning games for you people, so you bet it's good. I'm looking forward to camp!

And also also also, I wish everyone good luck for tomorrow's performance.

Time sure flies.

Particularly since I'm so immensely in love with my fellow club members, and SYF is in one month's time, which I predict will leave us only a week's worth of preparation left.

Scratch that.

I think it would amount to half a week.

But it pains me to think that soon, I would be graduating, and leaving behind all these wonderful, dramatic souls. What would I miss the most?

I would miss being able to look stupid in front of the people I know as my 2nd family, from Mama Tang and makcik Quraisya to our youngest brother Hakim 2 and Hong Wei (old man), and not be self-conscious about it.

I would miss having liberal and eerily open-minded people as company.

And I would sure miss our close knit circle of friends. Honestly speaking, I think most of my best friends are from KPDT.

And I would miss the way Miss Tang looks after me like my own mama, and the way Mr. Helmi affectionately forgets our names. I am sure Shazlin, or Sahzrin, Dellysda, or Dalisdah and Natalie Neo, or shall I say, Nataliar Tan would agree with me.

But as some saying from some wise old (presumably dead) man goes, "Most peole think too much abut the past and spend too much time planning the future to live the present."

And our present issue would be surpassing SYF unscathed and in working condition. Haha just kidding. But I think we could really put in more effort to focus in rehearsals, and as time progresses, our rehearsals are going to get even more intense, so we better be ready.

The Secondary 1s are quite new to this whole drama deal so they don;t know, but actually, we've been hoping for the SYF judges to be experts in drama rather than rigid MOE people who judge us based on enunciation and entertainment value.

Is that what our CCA about? Something as superficial as entertainment value?

If anything, I believe that the fact that the SYF judges are drama experts are an advantage to us, and owuld elevate us to the position of at least a silver.

But to get to the silver, obviously we need to put in more effort than what we are currently giving.

So bottomline is

GET INTO SHAPE PEOPLE! MOVE IT!

I am hoping that the new style direction in our prints and media is going to highlight our passion for drama and focus on physical theatre. Of that, Mr Helmi would be proud of. Event: NTU FUND Run - Creating record for most number of consequetive 100m relay run to raise funds for NTU Needy Students fund and MINDS schools

We will be having our own road run on the same day @ Chinese Garden. For the Road Run, we will be dismissed at 10am.

Therefore the programme for the day is as follows:
1000-1100 - Travel from Chinese Garden (We will take the MRT together)
1100-1200 - Early lunch @ KSS (I will order food for you guys so if you have any food allergies or requests like vegetarian pls inform me ASAP. You can also use the time to bathe in school. I'm alright with the training bit but it will mean extra training with me on certain days to prepare for exams. (I'm qualified to teach btw. had students who took the LAMDA exams for 4 years before I quit teaching speech and drama) We'll see how it goes...

Hey Hey guys,

This has been a long time coming and so a long post follows but do try to keep track of what's going on. I'll number them as we go...

1. Congratulations to the cast, crew, video people, survey people of "The lift" and the racial harmony programme! Good job guys. A proper debrief will be held this friday during training.

2. A Humongous THANK YOU to all who worked on the board. It looks really 'spiffy'. Once I get the time to print out the photos we took ages and eons ago, they're going right up!!

3. An upcoming 'fun' club activity that is coming up in August is the club excursion to go see 'Hairspray'; a famous broadway musical that has been made into a movie! To find out more, check this out! http://www.hairspraymovie.com/

It opens on Thurs 23 Aug. So the option is whether you want to watch it on Thurs or Fri. The difference is about $1 thereabouts. You guys decide - vote on the tagboard!

4. This Friday, everyone please wear your collared ELDDS T-shirt as we have a formal photo-taking for the school website.

5. The training schedule for the next few weeks is as follows

3 Aug - Photo-taking, de-brief, rehearsal for Teacher's Day
16 Aug - rehearsal for Teacher's Day
23 Aug - rehearsal for Teacher's Day / 'Hairspray' outing
30 Aug - Teacher's day performance

After which ELDDS will rest for the exams.

We will pick up with the new trainer in Oct.

6. Camp and graduation [BBQ?] for all ELDDS will be in NOV.

7. Sec 4 Graduation show will be in early Dec.

8. Camp for the 3 - school collaboration with Tampines Sec and Orchid Park Sec is scheduled for early Dec. Auditions will be held in Oct. Performance for this show will be in March.

9. Possible arts excursion aka Arts Amazing Race to be hosted by Kranji ELDDS in June for other schools.

Our warmest congratulations to Adrian Pang, who took home the 'Best Actor' award for his outstanding performance as the faithful backstage dresser of an ageing theatre actor-manager in SRT's The Dresser.

I know you guys were very disheartened after the last rehearsal. It pains me to see all that hard work go to waste. You guys need to focus and focus and focus! We're down to a week. Here are the rehearsal dates this week

We have been invited to watch St Hilda's musical on the 17th NOV at $10. I should be able to arrange for transport and I'm working on creating a collaboration project for you guys with them next year heee....

Please DO NOT ASK me if there is ELDDS or not in the future. You should know that unless stated otherwise there are regular Friday practises every Friday!!! All absences must be covered with a MC or an AM note and don't think you can escape with just an AM note... if you are not where you are suppose to be... Ms Tang has spies....hahahawwwaaahahaa..... a little humour here... but the message remains clear. It is very saddening and frustrating when you ask if your CCA is still on as if it is an ad hoc hobby or something. It really shows your attitude towards ELDDS.

OK ELDDS practise on 21 July is canceled in liew of Cultural Fiesta Night... Go forth and practise your dancing! Practise resumes next week.

Hey guys,

As I have sms-ed some of you this is my shout-out to all you guys whose hp nos. i do not have!!

I am SO proud of you guys! Some of the seniors - Sec 4s and ex-Kranjians were very impressed by your performance.

In all honesty, I am not proud because your performance was top-notch because I think you guys know yourselves that there is a lot more for you to learn. I'm really proud because each and everyone of you have grown in many many ways. let me list them:

1. I'm so proud that the Sec 3s are taking more leadership and responsibility over your juniors. They are learning from you, you know.

2. I'm so proud that some of you have really developed in your acting skills and are learning from your previous mistakes.

3. I'm really proud that you guys are starting to take things more seriously and taking more responsiblity of your own roles.

4. I'm really proud that the Sec 1s seem to be bonding and enjoying the whole performance process.

5. I'm really proud that you guys rose to the occassion.

That said, I really feel we should see this as a stepping stone and from now onwards we will work towards greater things! It wasn't the best performance I know you are capable of but it was a step in the right direction and for that I am very very proud of you! I'm not afraid to admit that I was jumping with joy and jubilant backstage while the play was going on - the PA crew and Jeremy on stage right are witnesses to this.

I really have grown to love you lot. You have really made me proud. Thank you for trusting in Leezibet, Miss Fazlin and myself and for taking our words seriously.

It's now time to show what we really can do!!!!

as you probably know by now, camp has been postponed to dec. but here is some news for performances that I hope you will watch. give me your bookings by 31st 3pm so that i can book for you. A triple bill: Vincent, Tick and Lost In Transit.
Two short plays and a dance inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings; two chairs morph into a myriad of images and characters; a woman with an attitude wryly gets back at the world with being late; two women meet on a bus ride that neither will forget; two men find themselves somewhere other than reality; and two couples take an unexpected turn on a road trip. Watch the hilarious, the imaginative and the bizarre dream up a storm of extraordinary twists in ordinary lives.

15th July, 3pm, Theatre Studio
A triple-bill: ACSian Theatre, Temasek Junior College and Singapore Polytechnic Theatre Compass.
ACJC ACSian Theatre performs The Guy, a simple yet poignant response to the events of September 11. The play is not about extraordinary things but about the quiet everyday strengths and weaknesses that all of us share and which define our collective humanity. Confronting No Easy Answers is the challenge undertaken by TJC with its play that explores the power of the unspoken and the gravity of silence. It delves into notions of conflict, control and choice as a mother and daughter attempt to deal with the daughter’s inter-racial relationship. Finally, Singapore Polytechnic’s Theatre Compass will revisit The Sandbox by Edward Albee, a roller-coaster ride of emotion, with witty and playful exploration of ideas and language on social responsibilities and fairness.

It’s all about choices. Do Singaporeans have choices? Do they make the best use of the choices they are offered? At the end of the day, do we stand up and deliver with integrity and honour? Serve explores the National Service (NS) experience
through the eyes and heart of an NSF who wakes up one day and finds himself pregnant. Over The Wall begs the question of freedom and desire of young minds seeking alternatives. Watch how one person tries to discover what is beyond the wall that surrounds the island when everyone is happy being enclosed.

Bubble Skirts
Bubble Skirts is a theatrical performance devised and performed by 20 teenage girls. In a series of vignettes, the girls reveal various aspects of their teenage experience. DRAMA CAMP!!!

Ah.... yes... now that the exams are over, let's get on to business. There will be a drama camp - short one. It's a little complicated but bear with me.

Sec 3s will book into camp on 5 June Monday for the brainstorming session with the other Performing Arts seniors for December's combined Performing Arts Camp.
We'll also be discussing your graduation project for next year.
We will also be discussing leadership roles for the remaining part of your term till Apr next year.

Sec 1 and 2s will book into camp on 6 June Tuesday. Here is the brief itinery.
(1) intensive drama rehearsal for 'Mama looking for her cat'
(2) drama excursion to esplanade and possible a Singapore Arts Festival exhibition venue
(3) In view that the camp at the end of the year is not for ELDDS only, we're moving up the graduation and appreciation dinner for Sec 4 seniors.

Camp will break for all on Wednesday.

Alumni seniors are more than welcome to join us but do RSVP i.e. sms me that you are coming!! or put it up on the tagboard.

I'm really excited! No way I'm going to reprise my Milo auntie role again this year!! It's time you guys took over. (PS: Sec ones - ask your seniors if you don't get the milo auntie analogy)

Hi guys!!!

Just to inform the Sec 1-3s, the rehearsals will get more intense so please be as serious as possible!!! Unfortunately, we have not received any news about the National Drama Skit Competition so they may have cancelled it this year. Nevertheless, we have to open the show in June so a lot of work is needed!!! I have to make plans for the rest of the year as well. I'm suggesting that we have mini-camp in June for all Sec 1-3s (Sorry Sec 4s! O level crunch time!!) You guys will be having rehearsals on 9th June (Friday) So my suggestion is that we have a mini-camp starting the morning of Thurs 8th June or Wed 7th June. The contents of the camp are as follows:

1. Creating workshop for open house and end of year camp. We have to come up with some skills to teach the other students in the other performing arts groups. It can be improvisation skills or breathing techniques or projection, etc. I'll be getting the Sec 3s and 4s to come back and be the 'teachers' but we must try the lesson plans out on our own members to see if it works first.

2. Planning workshops and workspace for ELDDS - there are a lot of new props/costumes that have to be laid out and stored properly. We also need to start planning for next year's workshops. I hope to be able to include all of you in the planning process

3. Creation of new T-shirt and ELDDS log book

4. Possible Esplanade Tour or Tour of Art Venues

Do provide feedback to me on the tagboard asap. I need a reply by end of the week so that I can start planning.

Sec 4 Play outing!!!

Hi again. There is an opportunity to see a show 'A beautiful companion' for free the following friday 7 Apr 3pm at the Arts House a.k.a. The Old Parliament House. If I get more than 10 people I can book a bus. It's actually pay-as-you-like which means we'll probably be watching a full-dress rehearsal. I will pay a nominal fee but I need numbers so that I can inform the director whom I know how many seats to set aside for us. Haziqah is in-charge of numbers. DO NOT BACK OUT after you have made your decision. We should be able to make it back in time for prize-giving. Here is the blurp about the show:

Reccomending it to all Sec 4 ELDDS and Literature students.

Urgent things on hand!!! Kranji Idol

Hi guys!

It's been a really busy term. The Sec 4s are involved in their final project of their 'reign' - Kranji Idol! Sec 4s wakey wakey!!! Time to get back to work! New update!

There will be NO rehearsal for Kranji band on the 28th March Tues.

The Kranji Bands (only 3 if I'm not wrong) will battle it out on the 29th March, Wed. While the other are just auditioning to enter Kranji Idol Group finals on 3/4 Apr respectively.

There will only be ONE winner for Kranji Band. But the top two bands will play for the respectively Kranji Idol finals during assembly.

I will be making a proper announcement on Monday. Thanks to Jo and Neddely for making the announcment for me while I was at staff meeting, but there was some confusion so I'll make another announcement to clear things up.

Welcome to 2006

Hi guys!!

Welcome to 2006!! This year is so exciting. We kicked off with the Sec 4's play 'Your Body, your choice'. It was really very well-received and I believe all the seniors believe that it was well-worth the effort. Their next project will be to MC and stage manage Kranji Idol for the Aesthetic Development Committee before stepping down. So sad! I've grown to love that bunch. I'm sure we'll all miss them. So juniors! time to start thinking about farewell parties!!!

It's so ironic that the last post was about Fairfield Methodist Sec's show "Mama looking for her cat" and now this new post is about our version of it!!
Just to clear the air. We are rehearsing this for a national skit competition as well as the June showcase at Ngee Ann Poly!! It's a 1000 seater venue so the audience will be really big! The theme for the showcase is called "Colours of Asia". The band, choir and dance groups are all doing pieces from the region. Our piece represents Singapore.

For those who don't know the story, it is really all about how we are neglecting the 'old' and our roots in our fast-pace, every changing society. Old memories, relationships and stories get left behind and are forgotten. Although this play was writte some time back, the story is still very prevalent in our society. We keep hearing about old people left rotting in their flats because noone is there to care for them or to discover that they have actually died.

I'm all excited. We're planning loads of stuff including a drama excursion and a visit to the esplanade!!

here is Ms Tang wondering if you guys are reading this or not... have we put up this website in vain? Pls use the tagboard. This sounds too much like a soliloquy if no one responds. OK about the camp. Don't fret! The letter with all the instructions is on the way to your mail box.

BTW we will be having camp at the same time as the basketball ppl. so the sleeping arrangements at this point will be all the girls from our side and theirs will be in the music room while all the boys will be in the 2A classroom, k?!

Dear all,

First of all, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Welcome to the new ELDDS Website! Feel Free to communicate with each other and us. I will be putting up info on this blog from time to time, about announcements and promotions for shows like the following.

Do try and make it for this show. The playwright, the late Kuo Pao Kun is a very profilic local writer. He was one of my lecturers in NIE and we really miss him now that he has passed on but his legacy lives and thrives in his plays.

"Mama looking for her cat" is a very interesting play as it blends the different languages spoken in Singapore (in the original version, I don't know Fairfield's take on this) Kuo Pao Kun really wanted to develop a 'Singaporean' theatre regardless of race, religion, etc. So GO WATCH!!! I am but I'm waiting for response from you guys first. RSVP to me by Monday, 14 Nov!! Hurry, the show is next week and there may not be tickets if we delay any longer!!

Kuo Pao Kun’s Mama looking for a cat reflects the importance of multiracialism and bilingualism, both a cornerstone of nation building, in the Singapore society. Coming from various ethnic groups, the characters are able to bond through a common phase in life, such as their friendship, growing old together and their love for cats which are in danger of being chased out by the younger ones – a symbol of the generation gap. The myriad of the various languages and dialects used throughout simply enliven the play and at the same time, provide a kaleidoscopic view and understanding of the Singapore society.
